TEAM OF THE MONTH: Saturday U12 Boys

From Adrian:
This season, all but 2 players moved up an age group and straight away they realised that there was a distinct difference in intensity from the Under 10’s, so it took us a while to get into the swing of things.
Over the season we had some very exciting games and were unfortunate in many circumstances to just miss out on the wins, with a few draws and losses within 3 points. Towards the end of the season the team really started pulling together, with our passing game improving out of sight.
I feel that this team is really building together and hopefully they are able to string a few seasons together to improve on what they have learnt. The key to improvement over the next few seasons will now be this team’s confidence and practice, practice, practice.
I have enjoyed every game and training session with this bunch of boys this season and their enthusiasm and energy at all times made it great to coach them.
A big thanks has to go out to Doug and all the parents who supported the team and me throughout this season, because when the team was not always winning, we really appreciated the unwavering support.

Melbourne Tigers Basketball Clinics for August –September
The next series of basketball clinics are due to start on Wednesday 19 August. The clinics are for Under 10 – Under 12 Players. Our coach, Yusuf Qaafow, works on specific ball handling skills and corrects individual players' technique. He also shows our young players the drills that can be practised at home without a basketball ring! Yusuf will also happily demonstrate a slam dunk! Have your photo taken with Yusuf and get his autograph – for you might just see him on TV or in an NBL match in the near future. Application forms can be downloaded here and are also available from the Huntingtower office, Ms Savage in the HT Senior Gym or from Mrs Jenkin in the HT Junior School.
An update on Tom Boyle’s status:
After a decent season with Minnesota State (10-16) Tom Boyle’s team ended their season one spot off playoffs. L At the beginning of the year, his team was selected. With 10 new faces and a new assistant coach, Tom Boyle said it was “an interesting start to the season.” He started off with a squad of 20 and by the end of pre season training, they were down to 16. They then lost 2 other players after their games against Montana State (4000 fans) and North Dakota State (5000 fans). On average the team plays in front of a few thousand any given night!
Tom Boyle is making a name for himself, scoring double digits on numerous occasions and was the highest rebounder in their game against the 5th ranked NCAA school! He has played in every game (except for when injuries prevented).
His team is currently in post season practice. His scholarship and spot on the team lasts for another year, although he is returning back to Australia to continue his education. He also plans to play in the youth league (highest amateur level) and to continue practicing with the Melbourne Tigers.
His hopes are to move onto ABA/SEABL (semi pro) the following season and continue with the Tigers. His goal is to either play pro in Australia or to go over to Europe!
His interesting information on Minnesota:
It didn’t reach above 0 degrees; they have had 3 blizzards which cancelled school because no one could get out of their front door. They have also been threatened by floods!
